Dr. Young Min Kwon received his
B.S. and M.S. degrees in animal science from Seoul National
University in South Korea, and completed his Ph.D. in
poultry science in 2000 from Texas A&M University. He
did post-doctoral research at the USDA Agricultural Research
Service (ARS) at College Station, Texas prior to joining the
University of Arkansas in July 2002. He is a faculty member
of the Cell and Molecular Biology Program. In July 2008, he received the Hy-Line International Research Award from Hy-Line and the Poultry Science Association.
Dr. Kwon has research experience in the field of poultry
microbiology and bacterial pathogenesis. Currently, his
research is focused on the genetic/genomic analysis of
bacterial pathogens important in poultry for the mechanisms
of persistence and virulence in poultry. Recently, he has
developed genomic approaches to screen bacterial genomes for
virulence during host infection. He is applying the
approaches to dissect the pathogenic mechanisms of foodborne
bacterial pathogens with main focus on Salmonella
enteritidis and Campylobactor jejuni.
