Dr. H. David Chapman obtained his B.S. degree in Zoology at Imperial College of Science and Technology, London University, and his Ph.D. in Parasitology at the University of York, York, UK. Dr. Chapman spent a brief period in the pharmaceutical industry where he conducted research into coccidiosis of sheep and cattle. He moved to the Houghton Poultry Research Station (now the Institute for Animal Health), a government organization in the UK devoted to research on diseases of fowl. There Dr. Chapman developed his principal research interests, specializing in control of coccidiosis.
In 1990, Dr. Chapman joined the Department of Poultry Science at the University of Arkansas and initiated a research program on control of coccidiosis in the fowl. Dr. Chapman is sole or principal author of more than 90 scientific publications, including many reviews and book chapters, and has given numerous presentations at national and international meetings. His most significant research papers are concerned with developing models for resistance to anticoccidial drugs and understanding their mode of action. In 2000, Dr. Chapman received the National Chicken Council Broiler Research Award in recognition of distinctive research benefitting the broiler industry. In 2001, Dr. Chapman received the John W. White Research Award from the Dale Bumpers College of Agricultural, Food and Life Sciences. Dr. Chapman teaches a course on control of coccidiosis and digestive physiology. In 2005, Dr. Chapman was promoted to University Professor.
